Subject: Amendment to Faith, Worship, and Ministry Coordinating Committee Terms of Reference

Be it resolved that this General Synod:

Confirm the Terms of Reference for the Faith, Worship, and Ministry Coordinating Committee, as adopted by the Council of General Synod at its March 2022 meeting.

EXPLANATORY NOTE/BACKGROUND

Procedural resolution.

PROCEDURE FOR ADOPTION

 (G)

In the normal course, an ordinary motion must be passed by a majority of the members of General Synod present and voting together.

Six members of General Synod may, prior to the question being put, require a vote by Orders, with a majority of each Order being necessary to pass. 

If a question passes on a Vote by Orders, any six members (two from each of three different dioceses) may immediately before the next item of business require a vote to be taken by dioceses.  A motion passes if a majority (or a tie) of dioceses vote in favour.

Resolution – Motion to Approve Revised Terms of Reference of the FWM Committee

March 2022

Be it resolved that this Council of General Synod approve the following as Revised Terms of Reference for the Faith, Worship, and Ministry Committee to replace that which appears in Appendix B, Page 147 of the 19th Edition of The General Synod Handbook.

Terms of Reference
Faith, Worship, and Ministry Coordinating Committee

The Terms of Reference are in Two Parts: A. Mandate and B. Ways of Working

A. Mandate:

The FWM Committee shall fulfill the mandate of the General Synod with respect to matters of faith, worship, and ministry in The Anglican Church of Canada. Specifically, this means to:

    1. articulate standards and develop resources for worship and liturgy
    2. support General Synod’s responsibilities with respect to ministry, leadership, and theological education
    3. develop policy for, monitor, and animate inter-church dialogues
    4. develop policy for, monitor, and animate inter-faith dialogues
    5. support the Youth Secretariate as it manages policy for, supports and animates youth ministry across the country
    6. support the deepening of faith and discipleship
    7. promote theological reflection, and to provide resources to assist the church in its common life and witness in areas within its mandate

B. Ways of Working:

As indicated in Section 39B of the Constitution, the role of the Coordinating Committee is to provide coordination and oversight to the work which will be performed by staff members, task forces, working groups, or commissions. The committee shall establish and support those bodies best equipped to carry out the work mandated, and to support the development of national networks for areas within its mandate. The Coordinating Committee maintains formal liaison with the National House of Bishops. It intentionally liaises with those existing church partners, networks and organizations which connect with and further its work.
